India, Belgium on a growth path

By C Jayanthi

His Royal Highness Prince Philippe of Belgium was welcomed by the ASSOCHAM, FICCI and CII in New Delhi as he came in to the Capital with 250 businessmen from Germany. The current trade between India and Belgium amounts to $ 8.8 billion (with diamonds leading the way).

Prince Philippe remarked on India’s role as a major global player, and that Indian companies are seen increasingly on the world stage. He said Belgium was one of India’s major trading partners and 30 new MoUs or agreements were being signed in New Delhi, Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore, between Belgium and India during his visit.

The deputy Prime Minister of Belgium and minister for foreign trade, Mr. Steven Vanackere said that Belgium supports India’s bid for a permanent seat in the expanded Security Council.

Mr. Anand Sharma, the Union minister for commerce and industry said: “India and Belgium are strategic partners for technology and human resources.”

Mr. Rajan Bharti Mittal, president, FICCI said: “HRH is no stranger to India having led three successful economic missions to India…this mission with 250 business leaders representing 160 companies from the potent sectors of ICT, automobile, aeronautics, transport infrastructure, clean technology and renewable energy, bio-pharma, audio-visual and diamonds, is one of the biggest economic missions ever from Belgium.”
